Hi there, my name is Michael and I am the founder and chairman for Shroomate.
Did you know that there are currently 300 hundred species of wild edible & medicinal mushrooms located in North America?
Well, only 27 of them have been domesticated so they can be produced at home and on a farm for larger productions. At Shroomate we are looking to domesticate another mushroom for that list, and if possible more than one mushroom. We want to do this to help broaden the edible and medicinal mushroom options for everyone.
This will require a lot of field research to collect all the data and samples Shroomate will need to begin this long and educative discovery. We do this by venturing out into the wilds of the United States in search of the most viable specimen for our research and development that helps further the growth of domesticated mushroom options.
Shroomate is heading into the wild!
On April 4th, I am looking to study and collect field information on mushrooms that I find along the Appalachian Trail between Pennsylvania all the way to Maine. On this adventure I will be taking a lot of photos of the mushrooms I come across not only for Shroomate’s collection, but to increase the database for iNaturalist which I will be using for the entirety of the trip. Along the way I plan on socializing with the AT community I find to share and spread the word about Shroomate’s ideas and goals.
This trip is to help build identification knowledge on the many species that can be found in the North Eastern section of the US so that Shroomate can locate the best candidate for our goals.
