Welcome to Shroomate.org 🍄
A 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Agriculture Research & Development Organization based in Norristown, Pennsylvania
At Shroomate, we believe mushrooms hold incredible potential — not just as food or medicine, but as a way to reconnect with nature and build a more sustainable future. Our mission is simple:
To support the domestication of more wild mushroom species native to the U.S., helping reduce the strain on wild habitats while expanding cultivation options for both home growers and commercial producers.
We’re not trying to take center stage — we’re here to be helpful. By exploring, studying, and sharing what we learn, we hope to serve the broader mycology community and inspire others to grow alongside us.
We travel across the U.S., hiking trails and backcountry forests, in search of promising native mushroom species.
We collect and document each find, adding to our growing database and research archives.
In our lab, we work to create viable cultivation media and preserve each strain for testing and growth.
Our results are shared openly with members and growers who want to bring these mushrooms to life.
Here is a list of our awesome Appalachian Trail 500 Mile Hike Sponsors who make everything possible.
At Shroomate we plan on always having an active project or campaign to keep the machine going. Here are Shroomate’s current open projects in which you can get involved.
Shroomate will be heading out onto the Appalachian Trail from Pennsylvania all the way to Maine.
We will be conducting research & studying for the next 500 miles (or more) on the Appalachian Trail.
